10/10/16 Part 1
At the beginning of the day we were put into groups, we were initially asked how to make a collection using each other and I suggested we use some sort of audio through group discussion this developed to us all saying yes in our native language, which was especially interesting as there was a variety of ethnicities in our group We then decided it would look better if we filmed our mouths saying yes on our phones rather than just an audio and we also incorporated filters on the videos to then put them all together to create a collection of voices all saying yes, which resulted in a collection of mouths all moving in a repetitive motion which I think gave a eerie yet humorous final look.

We then arrived at the Tate and were sent to look around at the collections which was magnificent as I have been before it so interesting to go with so many other art students and get their opinion on the artwork. The main thing I took away from this visit was how a collection could literally be anything, you should never restrict yourself to what you think art should be as there will always be someone who finds it interesting and in my personal opinion I think the collection that were the most interesting were the ones that were personal, they had a story behind them.

Unfortunately I caught a very bad flu on the Tuesday so I missed making my collection on the Wednesday and coming in on the Thursday to see everyone else's but as I show on the image bellow my intention was to fill tights with cotton wool and the connect all these together, held up by two doll legs, incorporating that these are socks/tights from my childhood. As I could not make it I tried to convey through Photoshop how I was intending it to look.
10/10/16 Part 2
We were then each individually given our own word to make a collection out of of on our way to the Tate, mine was repeat. Inspired by my previous groups activity I chose audio as a form of collection and I took recording at each stop I passed on my way to the Tate, from this I made three different mixes which I think encapsulate the sound of the London underground. I really enjoyed this exercise as I felt we had complete freedom to whatever we wished with our collection and it gave me a chance to experiment with new concepts of what a collection can be.

We each had to bring in a collection of our own and I chose socks/tights from infancy to now, conveying how a women develops in today's society as at first they are very gender neutral colours and patterns and then suddenly there is a thrust of pink out of nowhere, I do not think I even liked the colour pink ,it was just expected of young girls. Then the colour tones become very neutral and boring as you enter the school years were there is no identity compared to the earlier socks which were filled with unique colours and patterns, till final the materials become more sheer and neutral as you have reached adulthood. The first exercise was simple to display our collection to our table without saying anything about it to see how clear our message was, everyone on my table got close, all guessing something to do wit identity and how we are change over time but no one once thought that they were just all from the same person over the course of 18 years. This really taught me that no matter how clear an idea in your head might be you must always make sure this is translated within you art.
11/10/16 Part 2
We then learnt about the different ways to transform a collection and were told to experiment with these ideals on our collection, this is when I really regretted bringing in socks/tights as I could not really cut them or bend them into shape so I went to go photocopy them so I could then cut the photocopied fabric which had a very interesting result but it took up a lot of time to go all the way to the library so by the time I got back I really had to rush my next two idea and I didnt really like their outcome.
